The 3 R's of Animal Research: Replacement, Reduction & Refinement

$50.00

The use of animals in biomedical and behavioral research has saved lives and lessened human suffering. Although this research has advanced our scientific understanding, it has done so at a cost to the animals involved. It is therefore our ethical responsibility to minimize the pain, distress, and number of animals we use.

One way we do this is by designing research projects to (when possible) use animal replacements, reduce the numbers of animals we use, and to refine our designs to minimize their pain and distress. These are known as the 3Rs of animal research.

This course will elaborate on the 3Rs and will explain to attendees how to apply them to their study designs and animal care and use programs.
